ALL COFFEES ARE FRESHLY
ROASTED IN OUR STORE

One of the most commonly asked questions is
"How do I store my coffee?" This easy question has a somewhat
complicated answer. To simplify things as much as possible, we
have broken down the answer into two sections.
WHOLE BEAN COFFEE:
Whole bean is the most desirable way to buy coffee. Grinding
coffee immediately before brewing will give you the maximum
enjoyment possible from your purchase. To properly store whole
bean coffee, you will need air-tight glass jars (ideally mason
jars), not plastic bags or Tupperware, and not the bag
your coffee comes in from the store. Freshly roasted coffee
(such as that sold by Village Coffee Roaster) can be stored in a
dark place in a cupboard or on a counter for up to three weeks
without becoming stale. If you will be able to consume the
amount of whole bean coffee you have purchased within this
period, then you need go no further regarding storage. If,
however, it will take you longer than three weeks to
consume your coffee, then store it as described in the "FREEZING
COFFEE" section.
GROUND COFFEE:
Ground coffee is much more fragile than whole bean coffee. Once
coffee is ground it begins to stale immediately. If it is
properly stored in an air tight mason jar, freshly roasted
ground coffee (such as that sold by Village Coffee Roaster) will
stay fresh approximately 7 to 10 days in a cupboard or in a dark
spot on the counter. If you will consume the amount of ground
coffee you have purchased within this period, you need go no
further regarding storage. If it will take you longer
than 7 to 10 days to consume your coffee, then store it as
described in the "FREEZING COFFEE" section.
FREEZING COFFEE:
To freeze coffee for the best taste, use air tight mason jars
and fill them with coffee almost to the top. Put one jar in a
dark spot on the counter or in a cupboard and freeze the rest.
Once the remaining jar(s) have been frozen do not open it
until you are ready to use it. Opening and closing jars of
frozen coffee will only result in your coffee becoming freezer
burned.
GENERAL COFFEE STORAGE & USE
RULES
1. NEVER store
coffee in the refrigerator. Refrigerators have destroyed more
coffee than any other device.
2. NEVER brew
COLD coffee. Coffee should always be at room temperature
when you brew it. Cold coffee makes bad tasting coffee.
